I cant believe its the end of April and my first marathon for the year. On Sunday I will be running the St Illtyds Way 50km Ultramarathon and so the usual pre race prep is well under way. As with most Ultras in the UK there is a strict mandatory kit list that all runners have to abide by and with the uncertain weather it is even more crucial to carry these bits of kit
- Long sleeve base layer or fleece
- Basic first aid kit
- Safety blanket
- Means of carrying 500ml of water
Along with race kit I have tapering this week and taking it easy the usual stretching and using the foam roller to inflict some pain on to my muscles. As far as race day nutrition ill be using Tailwind as it is perfect for what I need on the day as well as the races well stocked checkpoints (buffet haha). With race being in wales I can expect some pretty hefty climbs but have been told they are well worth it for the views so I cant argue!
Although I cant wait to race on Sunday I’m also looking forward to meeting a lot of people from twitter and the infamous red squirrel run team.
See you all there!
